Critical Reflection Questions

  1. 1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues? My project went against conventions. The convention is that the song is done in real time. The songs are usually done in concert and done in real life. For our project we did video. Then we did a music clip over the video to have the music video style. Another convention that we went against was that the style of black and red color scheme. In the video Marius had a blue scheme with only wearing blue. This color is the exact opposite of the black and red schemeOur product does not represent any social group or issues. One thing our product does represent was the fear of the dentist. Our product was made to show the fear of the dentist could almost be described as going to hell for some people

  1. 2. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text? Our product does engage with audiences. One reason is that when you hear the opening part of the song you already know what is about to happen next. When people hear the song, they are ready to sing along which hooks the audience. Also, people can relate to how the product shows how the dentist is being compared to hell. A lot of people have a fear of the dentist so that would be able to relate to this video and they would watch it. They would watch it to see if they find any part of the video is true in their eyes and if they are true or not. Our media would be distributed in two forms. These forms would be through a YouTube video. Also, our video would be distributed in a movie soundtrack. The song we used would be used in action movies when it involves something with driving. As for the YouTube video, the video would be presented on the YouTube trending page. This would increase its popularity. When the YouTube trending page would have our video displaying, it would suggest it to other people that listen to ACDC. This would make our video more popular cause more people would watch it

  1. 3. How did your production skills develop throughout this project?
My production skills increased quite a bit during this video. At first, I did not know what it meant to shoot a video from multiple angles. On the second project we did I shot the video from two angles, but they had no type of variety. Now with this project I was able to shoot the video though multiple angles. Some of the angles I used were over the shoulder shot, extreme close-up shot, and far shot. With using these types of camera angles, I was able to get good shots for the Music video. Also, with knowing what angles to use I was able to use the right ones to make the shoot go smooth. Along with knowing the camera angles to use I was able to keep a steady hand when filming. When I used to film videos, I had a shaky hand which would make videos come out as bad and unusable. But I was able to stop my shaky hand when using this video and was able to make the filming not shaky and able to be used in the Music video. Another way I improved was that I can think of scenes that teens can do. I mean by this is that scenes that teens can just go do without having to spend money on stuff to make a background with and all that other stuff. I was able to do this by improving my imagination and improving my drawing skills. With the improvements to my drawing skills and my imagination I was able to think of scenes that were able to fit into our song and what time we choose to do. One last improvement to my skills during this project was being able to communicate what I wanted to do and take charge over certain things. What I mean by this is that during the filming process I was able to get my ideas across and most of them were used in the music video and filming process. While I was able to get my ideas out there, I was not controlling over the whole shoot. We were able to put both of our ideas out there and then we were able to compromise on what we wanted to do

4. How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?

With the past projects I was not able to input much software into making the video mostly because my partner would edit them so I would not be able to talk about the technology. But now that I’ve done some more projects, I can speak on how I implemented technology. First off, we used a mobile phone to film the video. We filmed the video landscape way, so you don’t have to see those black lines on the side. While I was filming the video, I was thinking of ways I could implement more angles into the video. I then thought of doing an over the shoulder shot once more towards the end of the video. This would be for a more first-person point of view as Marius would walk down to the elevator and enter it. In the beginning of the course, I was not able to do smooth edits. I still can’t make the best edits, but the editing system Open shot has been helpful in improving my editing skills. While we were working on this project Marius and I were both working on our editing skills. This was good for both of us. This was because we were both able to improve our editing skills greatly. Marius improved more than me because he did most of the editing, but I still improved in my book. Continuing with the editing improvements, I am now able to make some smoother transitions between clips. With regards to online usage for this project we were able to pull the sound clip of the song we wanted from YouTube and insert it into the video. Other,
than that we used some normal software. We used Marius phone to film the video.
We filmed the video in landscape mode to make sure we get a bigger and wider picture. We then used a basic video editor on Marius phone to do the first cutting and piecing together of the clips. Once we did that we used the editing software Open Shot to edit the rest of the video.
