Title Research: Arrival

 To fully understand the mystery film genre our group watched many opening sequences of mystery films. One of the opening sequences we researched is the opening scene from the film Arrival.

- What titles are displayed during the opening sequences? During the opening sequence of the film Arrival, no title was displayed. The word Arrival never appeared on the screen. - What images are prioritized in the opening sequence? In the opening scene, the camera was always prioritizing Louise Banks and her newborn daughter. Lastly, the image of Louise crying was prioritized since she lost her daughter to a disease was an emotional moment in the film. The woman seemed to be the main character in the film.

- What connotations do these images carry? These images shown in the opening sequence have different connations. The part where Louise Banks was holding her newborn daughter shows the amount of happiness she experienced at the moment of meeting her biological daughter at birth. The image where Louise Banks was begging her daughter to not leave while she lay dead on the hospital bed shows how Louise is traumatized by the death of her daughter. - How does the film establish a feeling of the genre from the outset? The film never gave away who Louises' spouse was. During the sequence, she had a ring on that seemed to portray a wedding ring. With the film being about extraterrestrials, her spouse could be someone studying extraterrestrials. - What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience? The cold opening sequence is a small part of Louise's backstory. The audience begins to wonder who her spouse is and what she will keep living with the trauma of her daughter passing away. - How has technology been used effectively? You want to consider camera angles, transitions, and editing techniques. During this scene, the camera angles focusing on Louise's face show her emotions towards her daughter. The over the shoulder shots showing her point of view of her love for her daughter. The close-ups on her face when she learned the news of her daughters passing showed the raw emotion of her trauma.

  In order to learn more about our genre, our group watched Lost Girls, a murder mystery movie released in 2020. This movie is a nice classic murder mystery, similar to the likes of Clue and Murder on the Orient Express.  So today we have finishers with the editing of our video. This was a good thing for us because we are able to see our final product. Once we finished editing we looked over our video. We were looking them to see if anything was bad. We looked it over and everything seemed fine. We then were talking about what to do next. This is where we had some discussion. We had to talk about what we wanted to do next. One person wanted to relax and do nothing. One other person wanted to finish up the rest of the blogs. And I had no clue what to do. We then had an argument on what we should do it went nowhere. Then once we stopped arguing we then had to leave Marius place cause it got late. After we got home we texted each other.   What titles are displayed during the opening sequences? - During the Opening sequence, there is, at first, nothing. Then, about 45 seconds in, we get to see the first name. That name is Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, the company who made this movie. The next name, which appears soon after, is that of Stanley Kubrick, the producer of the movie. Finally, we see the title screen. What images are prioritized in the opening sequence? -In the opening sequence, the first image is an all black screen. Eventually, we see a big white circle begin to appear, and we realize that it is actually a planet. We slowly move up from the original black screen (which is actually a planet), and more unto the white circle with some light behind it.
