Genre Research: Murder on the Oregon Express
In order to understand the concept, my group and I watched three different murder mysteries. One of the films we viewed was "Murder on the Orient Express". This movie depicts an original murder mystery film.
- What elements of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have? This movie has a lead detective who is classified as the main character. Our group will have a lead detective who tries to solve the murder mystery. He will look for clues and try to find the real murderer. Another element that our group wants to use is the different suspects being interrogated for the murder of someone. This creates confusion in the audience that they want to solve. - What elements of the genre did the movie have that you like? Our group loves the originality of this story found in the film. A murder mystery on a train voyage is a common theme for a murder mystery. The backstories used for each suspect were unique in each way. All of them had a different culture and they all related with one another in the end. The murderer was revealed at the very end of the film. It made it perfect since it made us wonder which suspect was the murderer. - What elements of the genre did the movie have that did not appeal to you? The element of the film that we did not enjoy very much was the fact that all of the suspects were actually all part of the murder. This surprised us and we didn't really enjoy that. It made the plot seem very corny.
