Genre Decision Blog
Our Opening sequence for our movie will be the mystery genre. All of us in the group have always been fan of the mystery genre for many reasons. That idea of not knowing what happens next and trying to figure it out by yourself is something we all love. A good mystery is what keeps an audience on its feet. The thrill of the mystery is something we wanted to re-create in our film.
To be completely honest, our group struggled to pick a genre. While we all love the mystery genre, we also love the horror and action genres. We had many different ideas for potential genres that we wanted to do. We know that horror is perhaps the easiest genre for a group to film, since it requires little to no special effects. However, as we mentioned earlier, the horror genre is easy to do, and such would be done by many other groups. Our group wanted to do something different. For our opening sequence, we wanted to pay homage to some of our favorite mystery movies. Specifically, we wanted to show our respect and love for the murder mystery sub-genre. There are many classic "whodunit" tales, each with its own twists. There is obviously the old classics, such as the old Clue movie. There is the film adaptations of classic murder mystery movies, such as the Hercule Poirot, the famous French detective. Finally, there is perhaps the greatest detective known, Sherlock Holmes. Holmes has had multiple movies and TV Shows. We plan to inspire ourselves from all these movies, yet still give our own twist on the genre. We chose this genre to make sure we gave an original movie, and show off something original. Another major factor was budget and how we could make the movie. Action movies require lots of CGI, and our group, who is not necessarily the best at CGI, decided to rather focus on our strong points.
