Title Research: Murder by Death
What titles are displayed in the opening sequence- One title that is displayed is the production company Columbia. Then the director who directed it. Which was Ray Stark. Finally the title card saying Murder by Death
What images are prioritized in the opening sequence- The images that were shown are characters with people's names over them. The first image that is shown is a short man with a fadora on. On this image the name Truman Capote is shown. Next image is a mobster looking man with the name Peter Falk. Then the following image is a man being held at gun point. The text on the image is Alec Guinness.
What connotation do the images hold- The images are people inside that created the film or help contribute to it. For example Truman Capote helped produce the movie. Each of these images are used to give a character to some of the people who helped produce the film.
How does the film establish a feeling of the genre from the outset- The images used were illustrated cutouts used to make a mysterious sense. This is cause with the use of using cutouts it adds a sort of mystery as to why they decided to use cutouts. Also this can cause curiosity to the viewer as to how the cutouts could represent something else.
What strategies are used by the film to appeal to the target audience- The film used posters to get the word out about their new film. They also used commercials to target family households to get them to go watch their movie.
How has the technology been used effectively- For the time this film was made they did a pretty good job at using the technology they had. The reason for this is that they used some basic camera angles to get certain shots.
